September 11, 2015 - October 17, 2015
The Detroit Artists Market is pleased to present The Change We Want To See: Artists Reflect on Detroit, a group exhibition curated by artist and photographer Jeff Cancelosi. On view September 11 through October 17, 2015, the exhibition opens to the public on Friday, September 11, with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m.
Artists see that which so often rests just below or beyond the broader consciousness. Through their unique visions, they give form to a collective conscience. Sometimes art prods us toward change; sometimes art reminds us how much has already changed, a quiet voice illuminating the connections between past, present and future.
Detroit has always been a city on the leading edge of change, often for good, but sometimes less so. Artists have been reflecting on those changes throughout the years, spotlighting concerns, showcasing transformation, highlighting both the good and the bad. In this remarkable collection of works, artists with deep ties to Detroit offer their perspectives on the place they love. This exhibition showcases the wealth and diversity of voices and visions that have created the conscience of the city and that continue to push Detroit forward to the future.
